Computer On Module (COM) Boards
SRD's family of boards includes Goldfinch (COM-7763), a 480MIPS, 266MHz RISC-based Computer-on-Module with a host of features:
- 64MB / 128MB DDR RAM
- 4MB / 64MB Flash memory
- floating point processor
- CAN 2.0 A/B
- 10/100 Ethernet with Phy Transformer
- USB 1.1 Host
- LCD controller
- PCMCIA interface
- micro SD socket
- AC97 audio
- 5VDC-30VDC I/O
- A/D and D/A
The extensive I/O built into the COM-7763 module means that you have less to do with your carrier board design - perhaps eliminating any additional carrier board logic and simply routing the I/O to appropriate connectors. SRD existing carrier board may already meet your requirements.
The SODIMM sized COM-7763 module consumes significantly less power than equivalent performance x86 processors, ranging from a few microwatts in standby mode to under 2 Watts in full operation with all I/O active (compared to 5-10 Watts for x86).
Built here in the U.S.A to ensure high quality, Goldfinch is available now to accelerate controller projects.
CANOpen Boards
SRD's family of low cost CANOpen boards add remote functionality to our COM boards over a flexible and scalable distributed industrial network. SRD offers several flavors of off-the-shelf CANOpen boards for standalone or networked systems:
- digital I/O boards
- 4-20 mA input
- Temperature, flow, conductivity probes
- motor controllers (brushed & brushless)
- wireless CAN bridges
These plug and play boards instantly add distributed intelligence to your control system via CAN/CANOpen interface, the de facto standard industrial networking protocol. Contact us for more information and product pricing.
Rapid Development Platform
Key to SRD's success is its purpose-built Rapid Development Platform (RDP), an integrated hardware/software design tool that accelerates the creation of bombproof, intelligent solutions, on-time and on-budget. The platform consists of:
- modular hardware building blocks that form a highly flexible distributed control system
- software environment that leverages industry standard protocols
- interfaces that simplify application development and integration
The platform forms the foundation of any industrial controller, reducing cost and time-to-market no matter what the complexity. In addition, its intelligent design is flexible, expandable and scalable, offering clients lower risk, incremental upgrades and an easier route to maintenance. If ROI is an important factor in the decision making process, SRD's Rapid Development Platform gets results fast.
Here are some examples of control systems quickly built using SRD's Rapid Development Platform.
- Solar Tracker
- Robotics
- Heating and Cooling Systems
- Waste Collection Vehicles
- Boat Lift Systems
RDP Software Stack
Distributed controllers are flexible, modular, expandable and scalable but
they are notoriously complex, are dependent on proprietary communications and
have a reputation for being an integration nightmare. Adding CANOpen gives
distributed control systems the advantages of open standards, interoperability,
application profiles and customization but the complexities and integration
headaches are no less severe. Practitioners must also suffer a steep learning
curve and master proramming to a proprietary API from the CANOPen stack vendor.
All of these problems disappear the moment practitioners use SRD's CANOpen
interface. It provides:
- Rapid Software Development
- Transparent networked control of devices
- Meaningful device presentation
- Standard communications protocol and interfaces
- Simplified device networking
- Shorter learning curves
Unlike traditional controllers, SRD's CANOpen interface allows users to prototype applications directly on the target device in a scripting language of their choice without CAN or CANOpen programming knowledge or additional tools. Direct-On-Device programming removes the tedious process of "code-upload-test-recode" associated with low tech programming methodologies. QNX, an industrial strength real-time OS, is integral to the High-Availability of SRD's architecture allowing transparent distributed control of multiple dynamic device networks. For clients who prefer alternatives, SRD's platform also offers Linux and WinCE. Contact us for more information and product pricing.
